MeshChat

Private messaging that works when the internet does not.

MeshChat is an end-to-end encrypted messenger for iPhone and Android. Phones pass messages to each other over Bluetooth, over the same Wi-Fi, or directly over the internet. No accounts. No phone numbers. No message servers.

Three ways to reach your people

MeshChat picks the best available path automatically and always keeps the same end-to-end encryption.

Bluetooth mesh

No signal needed

Nearby phones link over Bluetooth Low Energy. Each phone can pass a message on to the next, so it can travel several hops beyond your own range, with no internet, no router and no cell tower.

Same Wi-Fi

Fast local links

Contacts on the same network connect directly for quicker photos, voice notes and files. It works on a Wi-Fi network that has no internet access.

Internet

Direct, when you want it

With the internet link turned on, you reach contacts anywhere through a direct peer-to-peer connection. There is no MeshChat message server in between. You can switch it off at any time.

Bluetooth mesh range depends on how many people with MeshChat are nearby and on the environment. It is not a replacement for emergency services.

Privacy and security by design

MeshChat has no accounts and no developer-run message servers, so there is no central place that holds your conversations.

End-to-end encrypted

Messages use the Noise protocol with modern, standard cryptography (X25519, ChaCha20-Poly1305, Ed25519). Only you and your contact can read them, including messages relayed through other phones.

Stored encrypted on your phone

Your messages and media live in an encrypted database on the device, with keys held in the iOS Keychain or Android Keystore. Optional app lock with biometric unlock where supported.

No accounts, no phone numbers

You add people by scanning a QR code or sharing a link, and can verify them with a safety code. Nothing links your identity to a phone number or email.

Panic wipe

One action erases your keys, messages, app lock and settings from the device. Uninstalling the app also removes your data.

No tracking

No analytics, no ads, no crash-reporting SDKs and no third-party trackers in the app. This website sets no cookies and loads nothing from other sites.

Open about the trade-offs

Any network feature leaks some metadata. Nearby devices can see Bluetooth activity, and the internet link exposes your IP address to your contacts and to the peer-to-peer network. Read the Privacy Policy for the details.

Features

1:1 chats and groups

Group chats of up to 16 people.

Photos, voice and files

Share images, voice messages and files, end-to-end encrypted.

English and Arabic

Fully localised with right-to-left layout.

App lock

Require a lock to open the app, with biometric unlock where supported.

Block and report

Block any contact. Reporting opens an email you review before sending.

Optional instant notifications

On iPhone you can opt in to a privacy-preserving push relay so a closed app can still alert you. Details in the Privacy Policy.

Frequently asked questions

Does MeshChat need the internet?

No. Bluetooth and same-Wi-Fi links work without any internet connection. The internet link is optional and lets you reach contacts who are far away.

Do I need a phone number or an account?

No. Your identity is a cryptographic key created on your device. You add contacts by QR code or link.

Can the developer read my messages?

No. Messages are end-to-end encrypted and do not pass through servers operated by the developer. The optional iPhone push relay only carries encrypted payloads.

How far does the Bluetooth mesh reach?

A single Bluetooth link covers a short distance. Messages can hop through other phones running MeshChat, so reach grows with the number of nearby users. We cannot promise a specific distance.

Is MeshChat anonymous?

It reduces what is collected, but no network tool is perfectly anonymous. Contacts you connect with over the internet can see your IP address, and nearby devices can detect that Bluetooth is in use. See the Privacy Policy.

What happens if I lose my phone?

Your data is encrypted on the device and can be protected by app lock. Because there are no accounts and no cloud backup, messages cannot be recovered from a server.

Is it free?

Yes. MeshChat is free and has no ads.
